ASIA-PACIFIC REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON POPULATION AGEING

Nusa Dua, Bali

10 Sep - 13 Sep 2024

The 2024 Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Population Ageing (APRCOPA), hosted by HelpAge International in collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) and UNFPA, was held at the cutting-edge Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC). With the theme “Reframing Ageing,” the conference gathered nearly 500 delegates from 38 countries, including leading experts, policymakers, UN representatives, and influential civil society leaders, all dedicated to tackling the challenges posed by an ageing population. In his keynote address, H.E. Maliki, Deputy for Population and Manpower Affairs, emphasized Indonesia’s impressive strides in increasing life expectancy. However, he highlighted the accompanying demographic changes, noting that over 11.75% of the population is now elderly—a figure expected to exceed 19% by 2045. Maliki called for a comprehensive, cross-sector approach to ageing, viewing it as a lifelong process that demands inclusive and forward-thinking policies. APRCOPA 2024 served as a crucial platform for sharing innovative solutions and strategies to address the region's ageing population. It provided a collaborative environment for shaping policies that will support healthy, active, and inclusive ageing, positioning the conference as a pivotal event in driving future regional efforts to meet this pressing challenge.
