Whereas the mountainous part of Southern Sulawesi, Tanah Toraja, stands out for its unique ethnic culture of the Torajan people, especially well known for their mixture of animistic and Christian belief and their well preserved and they still practiced ancient funeral customs known as one of the most intricate funeral traditions in the world that is Aluk Todolo (way of the ancestors). Unveiling a beautiful scenic countryside, a unique burial culture, the old belief and the myth of Tanah Toraja are the perfect mixture for those who seek to discover a once in a lifetime enriching experience.


Day 1, Arrival Makkasar – Toraja (L,D)

Book an early morning to flight at about one hour from Bali to Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi Province. You will meet our tour guide upon arrival and start your journey to the mountainous area of Toraja, a picturesque ride along the ocean shore, passing scenic Buginese fishing villages with their traditional houses. Lunch will be served at a seafood restaurant overlooking the bay of Pare-Pare. In the afternoon we will have a coffee while enjoying a spectacular panoramic view. Proceed early in the evening to finally be escorted to your hotel and will be continued to enjoy a local dinner in the city.

Day 2, Toraja Highlands (B, L,D)

After a breakfast at your hotel, you will have a full day to exploring Tanah Toraja. We will drive through Rantepao, the capital of North Toranja egency, which is known as the center of Toranja ethnic culture. First you will visit Lemo to see rows of Tau Tau statues and hanging graves. Later, you will continue to discover the secrets of baby trees in Kambira. Onward to Londa with its ancient tombs in which the deceased was not buried, but placed among the rocks. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant near the Rantepao (which is known for the cultural center of Toraja ethnic group). Continuing to Kete Kesu with a stop in Karuaya to enjoy the beautiful and authentic Torajan panorama. From here we will continue with a short and gentle walk to Kete Kesu, one of the oldest Toranja villages. Here you can find two rows of the original 700-year old village houses, traditional ancestral houses of the Toranja people or called Tongkonan, and also the traditional rice barns with colorful woodcarvings. After an exciting tour, we will go back to the hotel and have a dinner.

Day 3, Toraja – Makassar (B, L, D)

Enjoy an early breakfast at your hotel and check-out. Our tour guide will escort you back to Makassar with some photo stops and a lunch stop at a seafood restaurant by the sea shore. After your arrival in Makassar, we will take you to your hotel and check-in. Take a stroll in the evening along the very lively Losari Beach road.

Day 4, Makassar City tour – Departure Makassar (B)

Enjoy your breakfast and have some time to relax before checking-out. Late in the morning, our tour guide will pick you up for a sightseeing tour in Makassar. Visit the city’s most iconic landmark, Fort Rotterdam, a well-kept 17th-century Dutch fortress. We will continue onto the La Galigo Museum, where you can see a wide array of exhibits including sailing boats, traditional musical instruments, and ethnic costumers. From here we will proceed to the old part of Paotere, famous far the old and new docked wooden Buginese schooner called Phinisi. Brave on and board one of the huge cargo schooners only using a small plank and observe the activities at this old port. Afterwards, we will drive directly to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.   • Minimum participants of each tour are 2 persons

  • Reservation should be made online or through email (the deadline to make reservation is 14 days prior to the tour date).

  • Full prepayment is required. Payment can be made online by credit card (visa, master card) or through bank transfer.

  • Cancellation 14 days will be charged 10% cancellation fee. Cancellation fee of 50% is applicable if the cancellation is received by Melali Bali DMC between 3-6 days prior to the tour date. Cancellation fee of 100% is applicable if the cancellation is received by Melali Bali DMC 1-2 days prior to tour date.
